Well, call me a day late to the party. Here's a reunion I didn't see coming (or maybe I did but just wasn't paying attention enough). Break out the baggies, Madchester is making another round it appears. Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni announced Tuesday that they were reuniting for two shows in June in Manchester followed by a world tour. 1996 is when the band dissolved and rumors of reunions have always been quickly squashed by band members. But apparently, the four
members were brought back together at bassist Mani's mother's funeral earlier this year and they feel the time is right to get back together.
For a nice article on the reunion and press conference always turn to the BBC: "The Stone Roses to reunite for tour"
Last year, I wrote an Artist Spotlight on one of my favorite 100 artists of all time (I really don't have the list put together, but it's safe to say the Stone Roses are on it). Click here for a read: Artist Spotlight: The Resurrection And The Second Coming.
For a band that exploded on to the scene, initiate the whole Brit-pop movement for the next decade, waited forever to release a lukewarm follow up and then disintegrate as quickly as they did, I'm kind of excited for these guys. Of course "the money" was probably a main reason (that's how these reunions go) but when the Stone Roses were on, they were unbelievably good. Here's to a second chance and making it through 2012 without any major incidents (like breaking up before they hit America!!!). Surprise me. Come to Indianapolis Stone Roses!
In the meantime, enjoy a few of my favorites from the band below:
