The Year Was...1973

Random Playlist For 1973:
1. Edgar Winter Group-Frankenstein
Let's start 1973 off right....with a ridiculously good (and goofy) instrumental.
2. New York Dolls-Personality Crisis
One of the best songs of 1973, perhaps it could have been a big hit a couple years later.
3. Paul Simon-Kodachrome
Mama, don't you take that Kodachrome away...
4. Elton John-Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
I'm tempted to put the album of the same name in 7 albums to revisit. It's Elton's best.
5. ZZ Top-La Grange
Verses? Who knows what their singing. But everyone knows the vocal delivery. Now there's a trick!
6. Pink Floyd-Time
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day....Line of the year.
7. Iggy and the Stooges-Search And Destroy
It's so loud, so bombastic, so apocalyptic...who could hate it?
8. Slade-Cum On Feel The Noize
I prefer the Slade version over the Quiet Riot version. It fits the British mold much better.
9. Stevie Wonder-He's Misstra Know It All
How about a sly song bout Tricky Dick Nixon in this playlist?
10. Marvin Gaye-Let's Get It On
(lighting a candle as we speak...)
11. Gram Parsons-Big Mouth Blues
Unfortunately, the great and underrated Parsons died in 1973. Just another alt-country classic here.
12. Aerosmith-Dream On
Hit big a few years later, always forget that Aerosmith's debut was kind of a dud on the charts...

7 Albums Worth Revisiting From 1973:
1. Pink Floyd-Dark Side Of The Moon
2. Gram Parsons-GP
3. Stevie Wonder-Innervisions
4. Al Green-Call Me (Come Back Home)\
5. Iggy and the Stooges-Raw Power
6. John Cale-Paris-1919
7. Led Zeppelin-Houses Of The Holy

Random Quote From A Song From 1973:
"Train roll on, on down the line, Won't you Please take me far, away/Now I feel the wind blow outside my door,/Meantime, I leave my woman at home..."  "...gone with the wind..."

Random Thoughts On A Song From 1973:
Being born in 1973, it has always been a pleasure to see what was the number one song in America on the week I was born. The winner? Grand Funk Railroad's "We're An American Band". Now, growing up, my dad had a good deal of Grand Funk Railroad on vinyl, not that he ever claimed it to be his favorite band of the era, but probably fashionable. I used to dig as a kid "Closer To Home" and "Survival". But the self titled album for "We're An American Band" was never in the arsenal for Mark, Don and Mel (The three first names that were known as the members of Grand Funk, in a Beatles way I believe/guess). Do I like the song that was number one when I was born? Well, I don't hate it...I mean, it's got a cowbell, and it's probably the best party anthem of 1973. The song itself was written and sung by drummer Don Brewer which I can dig his voice. Now if I was born on my due date (I was due August 30th, but a month late) my song would've been "Brother Louie" by Stories. A week earlier? "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye. Now there's two songs I'd be more proud to say were my birthday song. But I digress...I guess me and Grand Funk Railroad have something in common. That and an everlasting love for "I'm Your Captain", "Hooked On Love", "I Want Freedom"...GFR-JHO guilty pleasures...
"We'll help you party down..."
