#257: Ramones-Rockaway Beach (Top 500 Modern Rock Songs Of All Time)

#257
(Top Modern Rock Songs Of All Time)
Song: "Rockaway Beach"
Artist: Ramones
Release Date: November, 1977
From the Album: Rocket To Russia (1977)

Quick Take: "Rockaway Beach" was one of a list of Ramones tracks to hearken back to simpler, brighter days of the band's youth -- like "Do You Remember Rock and Roll Radio?" and their covers of songs like "California Sun," "Surfin Bird," and "Do You Wanna Dance?" One of the group's most carefree and breezy songs, "Rockaway Beach" was inspired by the real Rockaway Beach (in New York, where Joey Ramone was raised). The imagery puts you right in the middle of a hot New York summer in the mid- to late '70s, and it's easy to feel as jubilant as the song (and Ramone) does.
